Stage procedure and concert dress

Do not talk during the pre-concert rehearsal when the orchestra is playing. Whilst in view of the audience, Chorus members represent "professionalism" in the broadest sense and generally should behave accordingly. Do not talk from the moment the 2nd violin starts tuning the orchestra.

In order to arrive on the platform 10 minutes before the start of the concert, all members should assemble 5 minutes before this time, e.g., 7.15 for a 7.30 concert.

As soon as the agreed sign is given, the first rows file on at the same time from both tenor and bass side, subsequent rows to synchronise, walking at normal speed. This procedure should work in reverse when leaving the platform, starting with the back rows. People with mobility problems should wait at the stage entrance and join their row in the correct place.

Take music in folders onto the stage at the start of the concert, carrying the folder under the arm that is on the side of the audience, with our logo showing. Leave folder on your seat during the interval unless it is agreed not to do so (e.g., carol concerts when lots of pieces of music are used).

The whole interval is scheduled to last only 20 minutes. Please be ready to re-assemble for procession onto the platform not more than 10 minutes after the applause has stopped.

Remain seated until the entrance of the conductor, then stand when the leader of the orchestra stands. Sit when the orchestra does unless the conductor indicates or has indicated otherwise. Remain standing at the end of each choral work, holding the music open until the conductor and soloists leave the stage and the orchestra sits. Applaud only when seated. If asked to stand again to receive applause, hold the music folder flat across the diaphragm and smile, do not talk. Remain seated if the choir has not been part of the performance, e.g., orchestral pieces.

If you are to present flowers, ensure that you are in an aisle seat. Leave the platform discreetly, as soon as the music is concluded, taking your music with you. After the presentation, remain offstage.

If you are a tall 1st voice, stand towards the outside of a row.
