The audition
The audition is as relaxed as such an event can be!
You will warm up by singing a few scales. Next you may be asked to sing two short extracts from Handel’s Messiah. Copies are available from the New Members Officer. The extracts are from His Yoke is Easy and And With His Stripes. (These links are to recordings of a performance by the MIT Concert Choir.) If you don’t know Messiah it may help if you listen to a recording while following the written score.
Alternatively, if you have already attended several rehearsals with us you may be asked to sing an extract of the Musical Director’s choosing from the work that you will have rehearsed.
You will also be asked to sing a few bars of music at sight.
We understand that you may feel nervous about the audition, but remember that we want new members and are not wanting to catch people out or fail them. By passing an audition, the choir’s high standards are maintained and you will hopefully enjoy singing with an excellent chorus!
